This is my valentine’s review.
Remember I said Hilton seemed cheaper than Jambu? Well, that was based on the price list they had, and today I’ll retract that statement. Nevertheless, money is not an issue here as when it comes to fine-dining, the service provided comes before the food, and the bill.
To be frank, I was kind of disappointed with The Waterfront Cafe (TWC). I’ve been to numerous fine-dining restaurants around Kuching, and I have to say that TWC would not top my list. Although the managers or ‘bosses’ were really friendly and helpful, but some of the waitresses could do so much more.
Arrived with Amiey earlier than expected, and the mood was good because my car slipped through a police roadblock, and I found a proper parking spot, right outside of the Hilton Hotel. So no ‘illegal’ parking summons for the day! *SMILE*
Was immediately attended to upon arrival at TWC, and was shown to our seats by a gracious waitress. The menu came, and we were left to pick what we wanted to order for a couple of minutes. Had difficulty thinking of what was nice to eat and so, I did what I always do when I come to a new place to dine. I asked for recommendations! A new waitress came, replacing the gracious one… and I popped the question.
To my surprise… she looked uneasy attending to us, and seemed like she was forced to attend to our table. My further inquiries on the menu were disappointingly answered, as she actually made me feel like I was not worthy to dine in the TWC. The drinks and food came with little explanation on what’s what, hence leaving Amiey and I both playing the guessing game every time something came to our table. It was certainly not what I’ve had expected from a 5 star hotel. Arggh.. Don’t want to say much-lah… but I was utterly disappointed with the level of serving, and that took away the whole ‘class’ TWC had to offer.
Oh ya, the food was ‘OKAY‘, but the Steak I ordered was delicious. They could do more to ‘beautify‘ the food as I felt the food presentation was rather plain. Jambu wins hands down when it comes to food quantity and food presentation, but TWC comes slightly ahead when it comes to the steak and privacy.
Anyway, our so called ‘candle-light‘ dinner ended about 10pm, and we strolled our way along the Kuching Waterfront Esplanade. Everywhere I turned, I saw couples, and it was fun looking at those lovebirds clinging to each other… The weather was too darn humid, so we retracted ourselves home before midnight.
The next day was Valentine’s day, and we went out simple. We both wore shorts, and used slippers. Had dinner at Top Spot, and camwhored the whole night around Kuching’s golden triangle. Met a bunch of LimKokWing undergrads whom took our photo’s for a small token. They said the money is for their project or something… so why not?
Eventually, I have to say that Val’s day was so much better than it’s eve. Amiey got her ‘hand made‘ card, and I got a tie, a leather wallet and a leather belt from her. To Amiey… THANK YOU!!!!
